Meaning Behind the Name
In Greek Mythology, Nerites is a handsome young boy of stunning beauty.
In one version of the story, Nerites is the charioteer and a male-lover of the god, Poseidon. He dares to challenge his competitor, Helios, to a chariot race, but loses. As a result, Nerites is transformed into a slow moving shell-fish.
It is suspected that Helios wanted the boy for himself and was offended by his refusal. This furthermore secured his fate.
